YEAR: 1995
SEASON: Summer
DATE: 8/19/1995
STATE: Washington
COUNTY: Cowlitz County
LOCATION DETAILS: I was scouting for elk, before hunting season. I was traveling on a gravel road away from the Toutle River. Possibly 2-4 miles from the river.
NEAREST TOWN: Castle Rock, WA
NEAREST ROAD: gravel road near Toutle River
OBSERVED: I was on a scouting trip, in my 1967 Jeepster, during a fall scouting trip for deer in the foothills of Mt. St. Helens. It was mid-August, sometime in the mid-1990’s. I was traveling on a gravel road (heavily forested on both sides of the road), on level ground idling down the road. The tires would pick up pebbles from the road and toss then to the side. It sounded much like Elk or Deer climbing up or down a rocky incline kicking up pebbles with their hoofs. It was after sunrise and about 100-yards ahead of me, on the left side of the road something caught my eye. I wasn’t, at first, sure what it was. At first I thought it was an elk, but then I looked closer. As I intently scrutinized what I was looking at it quickly became obvious it was not an elk, or deer or any other animal. It appeared to be an adult and a child standing beside one another. No, they were not human. Wait a minute, I thought, they are hairy all over their bodies. Those weren’t people I was looking at. Then it dawned on me I was looking at a mother and child Sasquatch- Bigfoot. But, as I looked at the objects, with the sun behind me, I saw what appeared to be a 6-foot plus something standing by the edge of the road, with a child (~3.5 ft.) by its side. The adult was very cautious, as it eyed me and the child had its head facing me. They looked like they were thinking about crossing the road. They were very cautious, the most cautious of animals I have seen in the wild. I quickly ascertained them to be an adult and an adolescent Sasquatch. I had not traveled more than 10-feet toward them when they both darted across the road, through the underbrush, and quickly disappeared on the other side.
They were both very hairy. Their straight, course, brown hair (about the color of Elk) and was about 10-inches long. Their bodies were completely covered with hair, except for their faces, hands and feet. They were extremely fast and wasted no time disappearing into the woods. I didn’t feel threatened at all by their presence. How did I know, after a few moments, that I was looking at possibly a mother Sasquatch and her child?
I posted an article on LinkedIn about my sighting.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Scott Taylor:
I called the witness to interview him. The witness was very willing to discuss the sighting. I asked him if I could use his written narrative that he posted on LinkedIn in the published report. He said that everything there is public, so no problem with doing so. I edited the report to include it in this report taking only the sighting information. The public can go read the whole writing if they choose.
I asked him to tell me what transpired. His account was the same as his narrative written in LinkedIn. There were some additional details however.
First, he was not alone. His wife was riding beside him and saw what he saw. He thought she was asleep, so he didn’t mention it. She brought it up, much to his surprise.
Second, he explained how slow the vehicle was going. It was traveling at 1-2 MPH, basically idling along. The rocks crunching under the tires sounded similar to the sound a deer or elk makes as it moves through a sloped area and dislodges rocks. This could make a sasquatch think that it was an animal moving, not a vehicle, which could explain why it stayed on the side of the road ahead of him.
Third, he explained in more detail what the sasquatches looked like. The adult was about six feet tall. This would make it a younger adult. It’s hair was a light brown/tan color, similar to that of an elk. He said it was similar to camel hair. The hair was fairly long, about 10 inches. The smaller one was 3 ½ feet tall, making it a toddler by human comparison. It’s color was the same as the larger one. He assumed it was a mother and child, which is probably correct, although he could not see detail to say it was a female. He said it was slender, as opposed to blocky and thick like Patty of the Patterson-Gimlin film. This also indicates to me that it was probably a late teenager aged sasquatch.
This is a sketch by the witness of what he saw and the Linked in article:

Fourth, we discussed the location. He said that he does not want anyone going there as he is afraid someone might shoot them. We agreed that the location would be kept “general” and not posted in the published report. He said that he was near Chehalis in his BFRO report, but was actually near Castle Rock.
