(Show Printer-friendly Version)

YEAR: 2003

SEASON: Fall

MONTH: August

STATE: Minnesota

COUNTY: Pine County

LOCATION DETAILS: Wuest lane is a private 1-mile dirt road. Sand River rd is about 2 miles to State Croix State Park

[Investigator (MM) Notes:
Location of property: 45.974636, -92.684246 ]

NEAREST TOWN: Hinkley

NEAREST ROAD: Wuest Lane and Sand River Road, which goes to the State Park.

ALSO NOTICED: Where the bigfoot was standing in my yard and looked at me, after it left and I waited to go outside, when I did, I beamed a big flashlight in front of me and there were lots alots of dust particles.

OTHER WITNESSES: Someone down the dirt road saw a huge foot print and took a picture of it,I saw the bigfoot print...very large! That's my validation

OTHER STORIES: There was a deep growl on the side of my cabin one nite before the encounter, the growl came from above and not low to the ground.
Always felt like I was being watched, creepy feelings. Heard noises at times like little rocks or acorns being tossed on my roof of the cabin and trailer

TIME AND CONDITIONS: Early morning around 4-5 am still dark

ENVIRONMENT: On my seasonal 8 acre property. In my yard, Bigfoot was about 10-15 ft away from me, he was crossing my yard and went into the woods.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Robert Barhite:

I initially interviewed Mary prior to the 2025 BFRO Minnesota Expedition, and again on 7/15/2025:

• Initial Observations: In the summer of 2003, odd sounds were heard near the property. Mary initially dismissed it as local wildlife like bears, based on years of hunting experience.

• Cabin Construction: A 12x14 cabin was constructed on site. After construction, a significant vocalization was heard, specifically, a deep growl during nighttime hours. Mary needed to use the facilities and was near the corner of the cabin when she heard a deep growl. The source was indeterminate, but she believed the vocalization was close and came from an elevated source. Mary, an experienced bear hunter, ruled out bears based on tone and height of the sound.

• Structural Impact: Mary reported repeated impacts on the cabin roof, and when she went to clear it, she found numerous rocks.

• Environmental Conditions: Ambient lighting consisted of an aging fixture behind the trailer near the cabin and adjacent shed. Vegetation surrounding the area included tree canopy and creek access. Notable sensations of being watched were reported consistently, both day and night. Mary used the trailer as a living space.

• Primary Encounter (Approx. 04:30–05:00 CDT): During early morning hours, Mary left the trailer to use outdoor facilities. Her dog refused to follow, which was unusual. When she opened the trailer door, she observed a large, bipedal figure, estimated at over 7 feet tall, about fifteen feet in front of her and moving silently across the yard.

The figure paused and turned its head towards Mary before continuing a smooth, gliding motion across the lawn and down an embankment towards the creek on the edge of the property, then into the woods. It was close enough that Mary reported seeing a distinct face with softer, non-aggressive eye features.

She grabbed a flashlight but didn’t see or hear anything else. The immediate area was inspected, but Mary didn’t find anything although the air was full of fine dust particles where the creature momentarily paused.

Mary is a very credible witness, and the encounter happened close to St. Croix State Park in Pine County, which has a history of eyewitness reports.
