Report # 78337(Class A) Submitted by witness Michael Aguilar on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.Day-time road crossing sighting 40 miles southwest of Ocala(Show Printer-friendly Version)
LOCATION DETAILS: Homosassa is very well known especially the boat ramp that everyone uses. That's why we use the boat ramp off of Old Mason Creek Road. You take Yuli to Old Mason Creek turn left and go down a couple of miles to where the S curve is. There is a patch of woods that runs north and south in that location.
NEAREST ROAD: Old Mason Creek Road a couple miles south of Yulee
OBSERVED: Back in 2017 I was going on a fishing trip to Homosassa with my best friend Jason. The road that we travelled down is Yuli. You have to turn onto Old Mason Creek to take you to the boat ramp that we use.
Old Mason Creek has a very defined S curve at one part of it. As we were coming down at approximately 6:30 in the morning I was coming around the curve. On that curve you can see up ahead to the next curve. 75 yards or so up ahead I could see what look like a big guy coming up from the side of the road walking from left to right from out from the woods. At that hour at that time of year the sun is just peeking over the trees. The road was half illuminated. As I went around the curve the dark shadowy figure walked up onto the road and entered into where the light was going across the road. It instantly turned from a dark shadowy figure to a brownish cinnamon color. He was staring in our direction.
As I made my way around the curve there was a blind spot where I couldn't see the crossing point. As I came around the next curve he had already disappeared.
I stopped the vehicle at the location and was pretty excited and freaking out as I had never seen anything like this before. My friend did not see it. He was looking out the window. He is a hunter and is always looking for deer and other animals. I could not believe he did not see what I saw.
I got out of the vehicle. He was asking me what I was doing. I asked, "You didn't see that?" He said, "See what ?"
I said, "That big thing, that big hairy guy that just walked across the road."
He says "Walked?"
I said, "Yeah, it walked across the road. It was at least seven and a half feet tall, not super thick, pretty lean but big."
He says, "What? Do you think you saw a Bigfoot or something?" He laughed. I was not laughing. I was kind of in shock. I'd never seen anything close to this. He thought that I had lost my mind.
ALSO NOTICED: The only other things I can note is that his arms were swinging when he walked, and he had a very long gait between steps.
OTHER WITNESSES: There was two of us in the truck but only I had the sighting.
OTHER STORIES: I have not heard of anything in that specific area but I am now aware of other sighting reports in Citrus County and surrounding counties.
TIME AND CONDITIONS: Approximately 6:30 a.m. Clear skies, low light, except for the one area on the road where the sun was hitting that he walked into
ENVIRONMENT: This area is kind of like a salt marsh area with a mixture of mangrove trees, palmettos and cypress. It's where all of it kind of meets. It's also in one of the green corridors running down the west coast of Florida paralleling US 19.
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Dr. Robert S. (MD):
The witness is an experienced outdoorsman and fourth-generation Floridian, growing up just south of this encounter. The incident was transformative and shifted him from a casual observer of the Bigfoot subject (via the "Finding Bigfoot" series) to a dedicated researcher…he is currently a field researcher of the Mid Florida Bigfoot Research Group. I was able to speak with him in person about it.
The following details can be added:
- Per discussion with him regarding the location, the below diagram provides a depiction of the relative positions of the vehicle and the creature during the encounter.
- The witness was driving south/southwest early in the morning just after sunrise. At that time of year (early Spring), the sun would have risen from almost due East (to the left and behind his vehicle) between 6:30 and 7 am, which corresponds to his description of illumination of a portion of the creature as it crossed the road left to right an estimated 75 yards in front of him (this measured approximately 90 yards per Google Maps).
- The creature was visualized for only a short time until the vehicle entered a relative blind spot mid-way through the S-curve, resulting in the creature completing the last half of the road crossing out of view.
- The witness estimated the vehicle speed to be 35-45 mph (~ 50-65 feet/sec), allowing 3-4 secs for the vehicle to reach the estimated crossing location. Given the approximated blind spot location, the witness would have seen the creature for around 2 seconds, corresponding with his estimate.
- The witness mentioned hair that was 2-3 inches long and cinnamon in color, illuminated by the rising sun. Cinnamon is a commonly reported color in Florida creature encounters.
- The figure was initially in shadows at the roadside. The face remained in shadow with no visible detail. However, he mentioned it did seem that the profiled head and shoulders turned toward him as it crossed. He added that the head seemed rounded in shape, with no noticeable neck.
- Its height was estimated at 8 feet, though no size comparison/reference analysis was attempted.
- Upon stopping at the sighting location, no tracks were seen, and no evidence of a trail was noticed in the woods in either direction. He did not recall an unusual odor in the area.
- Salt marshes dominate this sparsely populated area, but fresh-water springs are abundant. The area has numerous wildlife refuges, preserves, and wildlife management areas (WMA), that often contain transition zones between different Florida ecosystems. Transition zones are rich in diverse food sources, providing essential sustenance for a variety of wildlife.
- The witness mentions a nearby coastal ‘corridor’ that parallels US 19/US 98. In fact, many of Florida’s WMAs and forests including the Green Swamp and Ocala National Forest are connected by the Florida Wildlife Corridor, a vast network of conserved lands and opportunity areas interconnecting 18 million acres, facilitating wildlife travel, migration and access to resources. These areas understandably would benefit a Bigfoot population by supporting a diverse food chain, and Bigfoot reports tend to be prevalent within the Florida Wildlife Corridor regions. Additionally, many areas of the corridor are relatively narrow pieces of land that can serve as chokepoints that would benefit opportunistic Bigfoots to help capture prey, as well as opportunistic researchers hoping to have an encounter.
- Refer to the BFRO database for other reports in central Florida.
