Multi-witness daylight sighting of a bigfoot along powerline route north of Centrailia
(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 2024
SEASON: Winter MONTH: February DATE: 4 STATE: Washington COUNTY: Thurston County LOCATION DETAILS: The end of McElfresh Rd. where it turns to Dunlap Rd. there is a timber land gate. Go past gate and follow road. At each fork stay right till you get to the clearing. Follow road past yellow forest gate and top of that hill you will see large powerlines running adjacent. It was running almost parallel to them. NEAREST TOWN: Centralia NEAREST ROAD: Old hwy 99 OBSERVED: My friend and I and my 3 and a half year old son were riding motorcycles in private timber land just outside of Centralia, about 30 minutes from my house. We made it to a clearing. My son was sitting on the front of my bike. He started pointing across the valley to a ridgeline clearing. He was pointing at something running across the ridge top.
As the crow flies we were [roughly half mile] away and a few hundred feet lower. It was a very large and human shaped. There was one color, tan/brown, moving across very rugged terrain making a b-line to the tree line. We watched it for easily 30 seconds before it went out of sight. ALSO NOTICED: It moved so fluently with little arm movement unlike a human running. Easily was 10ft tall for us to be able to see it from so far away. OTHER WITNESSES: 18 year old neighbor, my 3 year old son OTHER STORIES: A few miles south there has been many sightings TIME AND CONDITIONS: 12:16pm clear blue sky day ENVIRONMENT: Forest, creeks nearby, powerlines, pine cedar and fir trees. Clear cut logged ridgetop.
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Scott Taylor:
The witness is 31 years old. He has a 3 ½ year old son. His neighbor friend, who is 18 years old, was riding with him.
They decided that it would be a fun thing to take a trail ride on their motorcycles on the private forest land near where they live. They followed McElfresh Road to where it turns into Dunlap Road. (The original report had an incorrect road name which I have corrected). At the end of Dunlap Road there is a yellow gate. They went around the gate and took the forest roads for a couple of miles. At one point they came out on top of a ridge in the middle of a clear-cut. They took a break. It was a clear, crisp, dry day with great visibility.
As they were riding the 3 ½ year old in the front of the bike pointed north towards a power line right of way. The two adults then turned to look.
A little more than a half mile away was a bipedal figure walking swiftly along the powerlines from their left to right, heading east towards the Cascades. They watched it travel for around ½ mile angling up towards a tree line.
The witness said that the creature had to be very tall. He estimated it was 8 -10 feet tall. It was tan and brown in color. As it walked swiftly through the powerline right of way, he noticed that it had a strange gait. Its long arms stayed down by its side, and it hunched forward as it walked. It also covered the ground very rapidly and effortlessly with huge strides.
The witness was able to provide a screenshot from Google Maps showing where the three of them were located when the saw it as well as where the subject was and which direction it moved. Based on that information, I was able to measure how far away it was, approximately .54 miles (950 yards).
This area is well known for bigfoot sightings and seems to be a travel corridor between the Capitol Forest and the Bald Hills.
Based on the description of the way this creature walked and its speed across the terrain I believe that these three witnesses were fortunate to see a sasquatch. ___________________________________
Investigator Matt Moneymaker Notes:
I spoke with the witness at length. He is 31 years old. He grew up in the Tacoma area and has worked as an electrician contractor for the past ten years. His hobby is motorcycle trail riding, which has allowed him to explore a lot of back country. He has observed large animals and humans, near and far, while riding around in the hills over the years. This figure was obseved at a half mile distance, but with an unobstructed view as it moved along out in the open. Both he and his riding companion were certain they were watching something that was upright and roughly ten feel tall. If it had been a human they would have figured that out. They were certain it was too big to be a human.
This is an important report for two reasons:
1) geographic location
2) behavior
The behavior to note is moving along powerline routes. The time of day is important in that context. This tall, visible sasquatch was walking out in the open in broad daylight, but it doing it where no humans are usually around to see them (think Bluff Creek in 1967), or certainly not approach them. Whereas, when they are seen along powerline where those routes cross Interstate 5, it is always well after dark, usually between midnight and sunrise when there is the least traffic, and enough gaps in the flow for a bigfoot to get all the way across without being lit up by high beams.
The geographic location is a powerline route that crosses Interstate 5 near milepost 93, just south of the May Town Rest Area. When I previously posted a map on the BFRO's Facebook Group showing the three likely crossing points along interstate 5, several people spoke up mentioning their own sightings, or credible sigthings they were aware of, not far from the five. A few of them were just west of the power line route at milepost 93 of I-5.
These are the routes I suspect these animals use when they need to transit between the mountains of the Olympic Peninsula, including the Capital Forest area, and the Cascade Mountains where Mount Rainier and Mount St. Helens is located.
Here are three mileposts along I-5 where you should BOLO for Bigfoots between midnight and sunrise:
1) Milepost 70 ; where big power line route crosses I-5 just south of Napavine.
2) Between mileposts 85 and 86 ; This is a dark zone between Centralia and Grand Mound where a road crossing sighting happened after midnight in a snowstorm. If you are trying to stay in tree cover as much as possible, on both sides of the freeway, and then skirt into open land quickly, this is where you would cross. The stretch between 85 and 86 is also the boundary between Thurston County and Lewis County.
3) Milepost 93 ; where big power line route crosses I-5 just south of the Maytown Rest Area.
About BFRO Investigator Scott Taylor:
Scott Taylor is a retired aerospace manager. He lives in Mason County, Washington. He had his first bigfoot encounter in October 2005 where he was stalked and later heard vocalizations.
Scott has attended official BFRO Expeditions in the Washington Cascades in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. He also attended 2007 Central Oregon Cascades and 2007 Utah. He now organizes BFRO expeditions in Washington and has participated in bigfoot conferences over the past 17 years.
Scott will be leading a Washington BFRO expedition in 2025 (July 17-20) which is open to non-members. For more details and registration information for that trip click here.
