(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 2007
SEASON: Winter MONTH: January DATE: 19 STATE: Washington COUNTY: Lewis County NEAREST TOWN: Doty NEAREST ROAD: Highway 6 OBSERVED: I grew up in Washington but move to AZ.in my 40s in 2007 work got really slow In AZ .Washington had just had a big freeze for like 2 weeks so I came back to Washington to work for a friend doing restoration on all the broken pipes every one was having from the big winter blast .I was staying with my friend and other worker's that had also came to help out, he lived 27 miles up hyw.6 west of Chehalis in a very small town of Doty one night, I was driving back to the house in the rain it had warmed up and rained for a week or so had not seen many cars on the road but pretty common, had my high beams on and was probably going faster then I should in this part of the road there is some sharp turns and when I came around one I saw something glistening in my lights in the road reaction was to hit my brakes. And as I got closer maybe 40 yards l saw this thing it was laying in my lane couldn't believe my eyes it was like face down and had jet black hair 4 to 6 in long as I keep braking and trying to not hit this thing it raises up and looked at me I will never forget that is in my mind every day It wasn't real big the size of a large man covered in hair. I had spent 40 years of my life hunting and packing with my horses it was no bear it was very ape like couldn't see its eye's because of the wet hair hanging down I slammed on my brakes and went around it very close to hitting it, its nose and mouth was chimp like and had big arms and legs its movement was so man like I ask myself all the time what it was and why was it laying face down in the road I don't know maybe it was sick or had hard time with the winter blast that just ended was it drinking water? I don't know OTHER WITNESSES: No TIME AND CONDITIONS: Maybe 7pm raining ENVIRONMENT: Big hill to the south and a bank down to a field before the river to the north
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Scott Taylor:
I called the witness to interview him about this event.
He was temporarily up in Washington State (has since relocated to Washington State) to help with repairing peoples’ frozen and broken pipes after a snow storm.
He was driving on Hwy 6, west bound from Chehalis, at 7PM in January 2007. Near the place on Google Maps named Ruth. It was dark and raining. As rounded a right corner, he saw something shimmering that was laying on the road, face down, in his lane crosswise to the direction of the road. It would be facing north. As he approached, it raised the front part of its body by pushing up with its arms. It turned its head to look at him. He was going about 40MPH, and had to quickly swerve into the oncoming lane to avoid hitting it.
He could see a very human looking face. The nose and mouth were human looking, although the nose was flatter, like an ape. The wet hair was hanging over its eyes, so he couldn’t see the eyes. It was all hair covered and the headlights shining on the wet hair is what looked like shimmering. The jet-black hair appeared to be about 6 inches long. It had big shoulders and forearms. Judging by the amount of space it took in the lane he estimates that it was six feet tall.
He used to be a hunting guide, so he knows for sure that it was not a bear.
I examined the area using Google Maps satellite view. This particular place is a continuous stretch of forest cover that extends south for many miles, and connect to forest lands to the north of Hwy 6. This would be a natural crossing point.
He said that the creature he saw was laying face down on the road, on a dark, rainy, evening. One can only speculate why it was there, or what it was doing. My thought was that it was crossing the road when it realized a vehicle was coming, and dropped to the ground out of reflex behavior, not realizing that it was not only in full view, but likely to get hit by the oncoming vehicle. It raised itself up to look at the on-coming vehicle. It is only due to the quick reflexes of the witness, swerving to the left, that saved it from being hit.
He described the wet hair as “shimmering”. A sasquatch that I saw in 2012 from a fairly close distance had long black hair, and it was also very shiny even though it was not wet. Another witness near the town of Morton shined a small red laser light on a sasquatch at night, and remarked how the light seemed to scatter and diffract across the hair. So his description sounds correct.
I believe that this witness nearly hit a sasquatch.
