Two hunters hear definite sasquatch wood knock on West River 2 miles SW of Middlesex
(Show Printer-friendly Version)

YEAR: 2020

SEASON: Fall

MONTH: October

STATE: New York

COUNTY: Ontario County

LOCATION DETAILS: It was on Public Hunting grounds. In the swamp of the West River.

[Investigator Notes: For Google Maps pin of location of witness when he heard the sound click here.]

NEAREST TOWN: Middlesex

NEAREST ROAD: RTE. 245

OBSERVED: During bow season I and my brother were hunting. We got into the woods before daybreak. As daylight was approaching the woods never got active. No animals or birds were heard or were visible. About 2 hours into the hunt, all was quiet. It was then that I heard a very loud wood knock. Startled the hell out of me. It was northeast of me in the swamp. My first thought was, "You can't be serious." A wood knock here?

I stayed put for another hour, hour and a half. Then made my way back to my vehicle. My brother was already there. His first words were, "Did you hear that wood knock?" We discussed it and came to the conclusion that something weird was going on. About 3 weeks later during gun season the same damn thing happened in the same area.

ALSO NOTICED: Just that the woods were completely silent both times. It was like the animals were afraid of something.

OTHER WITNESSES: Just me and my brother.

OTHER STORIES: Just south of there in Naples, NY there were a few reports years ago.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: In the morning about 9:oo AM both times.

ENVIRONMENT: It was in a wooded swamp area Very hard to navigate. Unless you like getting very wet.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Matthew Moneymaker:

I spoke with witness Peter Eisenhauer by phone. He and his twin brother are 59 years old. They have been hunting for 35-40 years. His brother was in the army. They have both heard distant gunshots many, many times over the years. Distant gunshots are the sounds most often mistaken for sasquatch wood knocks. Peter said it was definitely not a gunshot, definitely wood on wood about 50 yards away.

The brothers were not standing together when the sound was heard. They were a distance apart, both awaiting deer to pass by. The first thing his brother said when they met at their vehicle: "Did you hear that f**king wood knock?!" There was no doubt between them that it was wood-on-wood with a lot of force, not something falling.

The sound came from some thick woods to the northeast of his position (see Google Maps pin) roughly 50 yards away, close to the edge of the West River. 10 yards to Peter's west was an abandoned railroad bed which runs for many miles on a general north-south direction. There is an established game trail along that railroad bed.

The two brothers have hunted this area for years because it is so plentiful with deer. He says there are collisions with deer nearly every day on nearby highway 245.

For the Google Maps pin for Peter's location when he heard the sound click here. The sound came from the northeast of this position close to West River.
