(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 2019
SEASON: Summer MONTH: July DATE: Tue 7/23 STATE: Oregon COUNTY: Lane County LOCATION DETAILS: about 1 1/2 miles up Goodman Creek Rd off hwy 58 NEAREST TOWN: Dexter NEAREST ROAD: Goodman Creek rd OBSERVED: It took us about an hour to cut our way in with chainsaws. The road was blocked by trees from the winter snow storm. We were the first back in there. We were going in to look for remains of an old homestead. We had walked up from the truck about a hundred yards. It's an old logging unit with trees about 10-12 feet tall. Had to pick and cut our way threw the ferms and blackberry's. I walked into a small opening on a rise. I just happened to lookout across the drainage and I noticed the outline of what looked like a person. But way out of proportion. I called for my friend to come over and look at what I was seeing. I'm old and the vision is not what it used to be. I wasn't sure I was looking at a shadow. But then it moved about two feet to the left. And just stood there and looked strait at us. We watched it still not believing what we were seeing. It was perfectly still. After a minute or two we turned away for about 10-20 seconds turned back around and it was gone. No doubt one hundred percent gone. We were looking at the head shoulders down to mid abdomen. I have worked in the woods from 14 years old. I'm 62 I've seen many black bears brown bears, moose, buffalo, nothing comes close to the size of what we saw.
Thanks ALSO NOTICED: No OTHER WITNESSES: There were two of us. Scouting the ground looking for remnants of an old homestead. OTHER STORIES: Yes. Several reports of incounters. I have been whistled at just a mile up the hill. TIME AND CONDITIONS: 14:00 clear full sun ENVIRONMENT: In an old logging unit. Aprox. 200+ yards across a dranage.
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Kevin Llewellyn:
I talked to the witness by phone:
The witness has worked as a logger and tree planter. He enjoys exploring old homesteads and was doing that on this day when he saw the figure 200 to 225 yards away.
The sunlight was behind the black figure. It was huge, about eight and one half to nine feet tall based on the height of the surrounding trees. The head went onto estimated three feet wide shoulders.
The figure then sidestepped and tried to hide behind a little, sparse tree. The witness observed it for one and one half to two minutes. He did not see arms move. He did not detect any foul odor.
If the figure was closer and more detail seen, this would be Class A report.
Under other stories: about one and one quarter miles away from here, in April 2019, the witness heard a whistle fifty to one hundred yards away. He saw his friend in the other direction and as he was watching his friend, he heard another whistle.
