(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 2011
SEASON: Winter MONTH: February DATE: 6 STATE: Arkansas COUNTY: Sevier County LOCATION DETAILS: Tracks were heading Southwest. NEAREST TOWN: Lockesburg NEAREST ROAD: Highway 371 OBSERVED: I live in rural part of Sevier County, Arkansas. On 2/6/11 I went out to feed my dogs. They are tied out about 150 yards from my house.
As I was feeding the dogs I noticed a large barefoot track measuring about 13.25 inches long and 5.5 inches at the widest part and 4 inches at the instep. I saw only one right footprint as the snow was melting quickly. I found another track west of the house about 300 yards from the first one. It was more melted so the toes were not as clear. Track was also right foot. I called my two grandsons to take the pictures with their camera and cell phones. OTHER WITNESSES: Yes 2 others. TIME AND CONDITIONS: Morning ENVIRONMENT: Patchy snow
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Stan Courtney:
I spoke with the witness and his wife by phone.
In summary:
• The witness found two footprints. One was near his dog pens. He and his grandsons using their ATV searched a large area around the residence until they found the second print.
• The footprints measured 13 1/4 inches long and were 5 1/2 inches wide.
• Also noted was that when he was gone on vacation earlier his son had been taking care of the dogs. The dog food was kept in a large garbage can. The son complained that something had turned over the can and eaten a lot of the food. At that point they moved the food into an enclosed area.
Here are two photos of the best, right footprint, the second one with a reference for measurement:
