Witness describes possible vocalization near Bath
(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 2010
SEASON: Fall MONTH: November DATE: 18 STATE: Ohio COUNTY: Summit County NEAREST TOWN: Bath NEAREST ROAD: Bath Road OBSERVED: Something heard.
It was around 9:30 p.m. and a very dark night. I was unloading music gear from my truck in my garage. It was also particularly quiet. I first heard something that sounded like it may have been a man screaming. I stopped to listen, and heard it again much more clearly. It resembled the famous Columbiana recording, very very eerie. I recognized it because I was familiar with the recording from History Channel programs. I would describe what I heard as more like a roar than a howl, but still a combination of both. I estimate it to have been half a mile to a mile away. I was also able to hear it very clearly because of the quietness of the night.
I'm certain that what I heard was not a dog or person or any other animal I could name. I have been casually interested in Bigfoot sightings over the years so am familiar with the sounds and circumstances of encounters. OTHER WITNESSES: Prior to this, my brother heard similar noises over a period of several weeks late at night. TIME AND CONDITIONS: Night, cold, rainy. ENVIRONMENT: A wooded neighborhood.
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Brad Bacon:
I spoke with this individual in a telephone interview one evening, in which these sounds were described to me as distant, but distinct. The witness estimated they originated from a mile to two miles away. The distant scream was what first got the witness' attention. After that, the witness noted the onset of extreme quietness followed by what the witness described as a combination of a shout and a roar. "It wasn't like any animal sound I had ever heard before" commented the witness. The witness said "the sound made me want to go in the house". The Columbiana recording he is referring to is the "1994 Ohio - Moaning Howl" located on this site.
No other sounds or activity was observed by the witness. The witness' location is in the vicinity of a nature reserve and the Cuyhaoga Valley National Park. We have received several reports from Summit County and in and around this national park.
