(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 2008
SEASON: Fall MONTH: October DATE: 15 STATE: West Virginia COUNTY: Wayne County LOCATION DETAILS: 3 mi. from Lavalette, WV an unincorporated area. NEAREST TOWN: Huntington NEAREST ROAD: Mount Union Rd. OBSERVED: To start off I've been interested in cryptozoology since i was about twelve years old.
I was about fourteen yrs. old and living on Mt. union rd. at the time. It was about 9:00pm on a fall night. My cousin and I were sitting on the hill next to our storage building smoking a cigarette and looking down into the holler next to the road.
All of a sudden we heard something move down over the hill so I whispered "shush, if we’re quiet we may see a deer." We continued to sit there, about 2 min, until a car came down the hill and its lights flashed on something tall standing near the bottom.
It turns to its side quickly then looks up the hill towards us. After the car had passed it was dark again and he heard something huff and puff and then it sounded like it took off up the hill running towards us so we ran to the house about 30 yards away. We ran inside the house and never heard anything the rest of the night.
ALSO NOTICED: The next day about the same time my friend came up and the three of us slipped out side. We heard some kind of wild screaming/bellowing and again got scared and ran inside. OTHER WITNESSES: Myself and a cousin the first night and then three of us the next night OTHER STORIES: I've read the incidents on this website and had some people tell me about something throwing their small dog, breaking its neck around Fort Gay. TIME AND CONDITIONS: It was dark with the exception of a street light in our driveway. 9pm on a clear night. ENVIRONMENT: Thick, wooded area on a ridge with cow pasture where it was
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Stephen Willis:
The witness is now 19 years old. The incident happened when he was 14 still living with his parents outside Huntington. He described the incident while answering my questions to expand details.
The sighting was of short duration and in silhouette. The creature was standing in an open field about 40 yards from and lower in elevation from the witness. The car mentioned in his statement was traveling a road that circled the field. At no time did the headlights shine directly upon the animal.
One item to note: When the animal turned to look in their direction, it turned its torso, not its neck.
His report of screaming the following night was loud but not nearby. His best guess at the distance was 300-450 yards away from his house.
