Memory told of an inquisitive sasquatch sighted near Port Hardy
(Show Printer-friendly Version)
PROVINCE: British Columbia
LOCATION DETAILS: A logging road 10 minutes off the holberg road near Georgie Lake.
NEAREST TOWN: Port Hardy
NEAREST ROAD: Holberg logging road
OBSERVED: I was fishing with a friend and his pops about 45 minutes from Port Hardy. At the time, my friends dad was receiving a ticket from the fish and wildlife fuzz. With our fishing privileges being cut short we decided to go explore. We walked up the top bank of the river down a trail. We then found a sandy slope about 15 ft high with trees and bush at the top. We started throwing rocks at the sand, creating small sand avalanches or sand slides? That's when we both heard a noise above us and both looked up. We both made eye contact with a hairy human looking creature with white or grey looking hair at the forehead. The eyes and nose were similar to an apes and the rest of its body was covered in light brown and long hair. The creature was perched over a stump with a large upper body and large hands. Before we realized what we were seeing, the creature went back into the treeline. We finally looked at each other with the realization of what we just seen and started running. We jumped into the pickup and told the adults we just seen a bear and it was Big! I don't think the creature was a threat to us, and if anything it was just being curious.
OTHER WITNESSES: two including myself. We both had eye contact with the creature.
TIME AND CONDITIONS: 2-4pm sunny
ENVIRONMENT: Bridge crossing a river
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Blaine McMillan :
I spoke to the witness several times about this incident and I found him to be honest and forthright. The witness described to me how he and a friend were having fun out in the woods when they spotted a tall upright hairy creature looking down at them from an embankment. The lower half of its body was not visible because it was standing behind a stump. Once spotted the sasquatch disappeared and the two boys fled the area.
It is not known how long the sasquatch may have been observing the two boys playing but soon after eye contact was made the sasquatch simply moved back into the safety of the treeline. It should be noted that this same scenario has been occurred in many other sightings and as in many Class B sightings witnesses have stated that they have felt as if they were being watched and then the smelled or heard something that indicated that it may have been a sasquatch watching them from the safety of the trees. One identical sighting to this one took place near Enderby, BC during the 1959 Labour Day weekend (September). It was documented in Rene Dahinden's book "Sasquatch" pg 100.
