Daylight sighting close to tourist cabins near Sioux Narrows
(Show Printer-friendly Version)

YEAR: 2006

SEASON: Summer

MONTH: August

DATE: it was a saturday

PROVINCE: Ontario

COUNTRY: Canada

LOCATION DETAILS: Northwestern Ontario

NEAREST ROAD: Hwy #71

OBSERVED: working part-time for a tourist camp. I had two young teenage girls assisting me that day. I instructed them to clean cabin #6 while i was in cabin #1. The girls came to cabin #1 when they were finished cabin #6. I told them to finish cabin #1 while i went to inspect cabin #6. As i was passing cabin #5 i heard a loud crack in the bush to the right of me. My first thought was it is either a deer or a bear. I turned to look and was shocked to see this sasquatch walking through the bush. I stood there in amazement just looking at it. It continued to walk & out of curiousity or stupidity i followed it until i lost sight of it behind cabin #6. I think it stopped because i didn't hear its heavy foot steps through the brush anymore. I was too chicken to get any closer than i was. I would describe it to be about 5'10", reddish-brown in colour, covered head to toe in hair. very stocky, broad shoulders. walked up-right on two feet. didn't get a look at its face though. i figure i was about 40 feet away from it.

ALSO NOTICED: none

OTHER WITNESSES: no witnesses but there were other people in camp

OTHER STORIES: not that i know of.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: early afternoon about 1:00 p.m, sunny & hot shady under the trees & under forest

ENVIRONMENT: near lake shore, mixed stand of hardwood & conifers

Follow-up investigation report:

The witness (an Ojibway native) has heard of approximately 6 other eyewitness reports from friends and acquaintances in and around this area. She does not want the exact location of her own sighting disclosed for employment reasons.

On that day, the witness was busy cleaning cabins with two other employees. While the other workers were in one cabin busy cleaning, the witness went to walk over to another cabin a short distance away. On her way she heard sticks snapping and then spotted a creature approximately 40 feet away walking among some poplar trees.

She said she did not feel fear as much as bewilderment and curiosity, so she decided to follow it as it walked behind the cabins. She described it as about 5'10, very stocky and thick build, flat face, reddish/brown one-foot long greasy hair covering its entire body and hair about twice as long on the head.

She followed it about 40 - 50 feet until she lost sight of it in thicker brush. At that point, she said it no longer made any noise, which made her think it was hiding and watching her from the thicker brush. She took a few more steps forward, toward the tree line, but then decided against going any further.

Approximately one week later she went back to the same location but found nothing significant.

She describes the area as very hilly with rocky cliffs, heavy/thick forest, patches of blueberries and wild strawberries and plenty of game such as white-tailed deer, black bear, moose, wolves and small game.
