Possible sasquatch seen by farmer near Hwy 21 outside Kenton, Manitoba
(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 2000
SEASON: Fall MONTH: October PROVINCE: Manitoba COUNTRY: Canada NEAREST TOWN: Kenton NEAREST ROAD: With held OBSERVED: I have accidently typed my story in the time of day or night box. I have had enough problems trying to convey my story and putting up with my wive and kids laughing at me that I'm not going to rewrite it if you want my story read it there.I would be interested in talking to someone about this if they have a open mind. ALSO NOTICED: I wasn't going to make this report but over the last 2 weeks I have had some things happen that make me wonder if somthing might still be in the area. I winter 150 head of cattle about 1 mile SW of the yard location. The area were the cattle are wintering is a shallow slough ringed with willow trees and a steep hill. The hill is covered with trees and fairly isolated. The cattle have been very spooked on several occassiions. Deer that have been feeding with the cattle have left and my dog who rides with on the tractor begins to growl and bark as we get within 1/4 mile of the site.I have looked around, found no marks and seen nothing but I have smelt any funny oder several days. There coyotes in the area but the cattle are used to them. None of the cattle have been harmed in any way, but the are spooked and when I look around it feels as though somthing is watching me , if it were summer I would be wonder of a bear or somthing but bears are sleeping for the winter.I will continue to look around the site if I see anything else I will report it here OTHER WITNESSES: Just I witnessed this and had been hauling bales to this location all day OTHER STORIES: I have read many books about bigfoot as well as other unexplaned phenomina. Any thing I have read before about bigfoot lead me to belive that bigfoot reports were mainly from the west coast. After finding your site I saw there was a report at Rivers Manitoba which I about 20 miles east of were this location is. TIME AND CONDITIONS: About 5:00PM I was approaching my Uncles farm yard with my tractor and load of bales. At a distance of about 4 hydro poles I noticed what I thought was my uncle walking on the right hand side of the road away from me.As I got closer he appeared to turn and look toward me, then turn away and walk across the road.At this point it stuck me as strange that he looked to be wearing a heavy dark winter coat as it was about 15 C outside.Just as he disappeared behind a steep hill on the left side of the road I looked toward the yard and saw my uncle walking up to his house and realized it wasn't him. At the point were the being disappeared behind the hill on the left side of the road is on the east side of a steep hill, with my uncle's house being on the west side of the hill. On the east side of the hill were the being disappeared was were I was stacking bales and arrived there maybe 2 minutes after the being had crossed. No one was there, still thinking this was a person I parked and walked over the hill to the house expected they had done the same. My Uncle informed me that no one had come to the yard. Now wondering what was going on we took the truck and did a search of the area we saw nothing. The closest heavy bush to that area would be a 1/4 mile away. As I replayed the incident in my mind it seams to me that this being was almost as tall as a tree on the right hand side of road were it crossed about 8 feet tall I'm not sure. I am sure it appeared to have a dark coat and remember thinking that the turn and the gait were not just right. The dogs at the yard were barking a lot when I left for home later towards dark but didn't seem to what to leave the steps of the house. The weather at the time was clear and sunny.I didn't find this incident unsettling but the more I think about the stranger it seems. I only wish I had seen my uncle in the yard sooner as I would have paid closer detail to the figure on the road. ENVIRONMENT: Hills, Meadow, Roadway the area is very diversed and we are mixed farmers. The Assiniboine Valley is located about 6 miles away.
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Blaine McMillan :
I have spoken to the witness several times in the course of this investigation. He lives in rural Manitoba and farms the land handed down through his family. As such he is intimate with the land and its animals. He described to me an incident where he was bringing in a load of hay to the farm and at the junction of two roads he saw in the distance, some 300ft away, a person walking across the road. It paused for several seconds as it crossed the road turned and looked at the tractor and trailer loaded with hay. To the witness it looked as if this person was wearing a long winter fur coat except that the temperature was 15C or 59 F. The witness also thought that it may have been his uncle, as this took place on the family homestead however, as he brought the hay into the farm yard his uncle was in the farm yard. He and his uncle soon retraced the witnesses steps in attempt to spot the individual again but without any success.
Several weeks later the witness had gone out to check on the condition of his cattle, which were wintered in a sheltered area near the farm. Among the herd was a cow that he had hand raised since it was a calf. This cow was not unlike a pet and would come directly to him whenever he approached. On this day and for sometime afterwards whenever he approached the herd in a vehicle the animals paid no attention but as soon as he stepped out of the vehicle they would all move away and take up a defensive posture, even the one cow that he had raised personally.
In the discussion with the witness I was asked if sasquatches have been known to open doors. I informed him that there has been incidents where door knobs, car doors an latches on livestock cages have been found to have been manipulated. The witness informed me that on another portion of the homestead he has several storage buildings where he had placed several large bags of seed grain. A couple of days before we had spoken he had gone back to this location. The witness is familiar with rats and mice but the bag had not been chewed open rather he found that one of the grain bags placed inside only the day before had been torn open and a substantial portion of grain was missing. The door to this building had been secured when he had left it and it was secured when he had arrived.
**UPDATE**
There has been continued activity at this location. In conjuction with BFRO investigator Steve Moon, the witness has informed the BFRO that his cattle still remain on edge when they are being approached by a person outside of a vehicle and at another location on his property he has found several possible nest like structures. Additionally, a crop of saskatoon berries were found to be stripped off.
BFRO investigator Steve Moon will continue to monitor this location for further activity.
