Brief night time sighting near Blaine
(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 2005
SEASON: Spring MONTH: April STATE: Tennessee COUNTY: Grainger County NEAREST TOWN: Blaine, TN NEAREST ROAD: Indian Ridge Road OBSERVED: My wife and I were returning home from a quick trip to the store. It was dark, about 10pm. We live in a rural area, in Blaine, TN. As we rounded a turn, almost to our house, my headlights caught the eyes of what I thought was an animal. Then I noticed as we got closer that it was standing on two legs and was furry all over.
It hopped a road-side barbed wire fence and disappeared into the night. I stopped immediately, just past where it had jumped the fence. I asked my wife if she saw it, but she was trying to get something out of the floor board.
I got out but stayed by the vehicle, and looked out into the field but couldn't see anything. I do remember that its eyes caught light like an animals eyes, but I know from the shape and the way it jumped over the fence using its arms to lower the top wire that it was not a bear.
The terrain was hilly area with wooded ridges and fields, and a river about 1/2 mile or so from the sighting area. This occured in early April 2005. ALSO NOTICED: no OTHER WITNESSES: no OTHER STORIES: only old stories about the Clapps Chapel area in Knox County TIME AND CONDITIONS: Night, about 10pm, clear skies, and cool out. ENVIRONMENT: near creek bottom, at the base of a ridge where a field runs into the road
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Tony Gerard:
I spoke with the witness by phone. When the witness first noticed the animal’s eye-shine, which was whitish in color, he thought it might be a bear. However, as the car got closer he noticed it had "human-like arms and legs." As the car approached the creature it "took a step up, or straightened up," and then "put its hand on the top strand of wire and jumped the fence." According to the witness, the animal jumped the fence from a standing start, "Like an athletic human might do."
The witness said the creature was at least as tall as an average man and "it didn't look fat." The witness added the animal was "dark all over."
The next day the witness went back to the location and found one of the fence posts was loose. The witness did not see any tracks.
