YEAR: 1996
SEASON: Summer
MONTH: May
STATE: Kansas
COUNTY: Bourbon County
LOCATION DETAILS: This was on the outer edge of Fort Scott on the country club golf course. I have researched the area thoroughly and have found no more evidence of the creature and can conclude it has been gone for a while.
NEAREST TOWN: Fort Scott
NEAREST ROAD: Horton
OBSERVED: I observed a form walking in an upright position for a period of about 5 to 6 seconds. The figure was darkish-brown in color and it appeared to be very large in size. I had just walked out to bring my dog in and it had started to sprinkle. As I took her off her leash, I looked up across the golf course and saw a form move out of the edge of the trees and run across a space of about 20 yards until it disappered into the tree-line. When I saw it, the Patterson/Gimlin footage came to mind, and I was left to belive I saw Bigfoot. The figure was about 200 or more yards from me and it was very hard to make out what it was. I have never seen this creature again. That is probably due to a new golf course was built a year or so later and there was, and still is, a lot of construction going on there.
I never thought to look for tracks until the next week. We had got some rain and if there were tracks, they were washed away.
OTHER WITNESSES: None
TIME AND CONDITIONS: During the day at around noon. It was dark and cloudy, and starting to sprinkle.
ENVIRONMENT: It was on the edge of a golf course near a forest about the size of 1/2 sq. mile.
Follow-up investigation report:
I contacted the witness about his sighting that occurred in May 1996. L.P. added that he witnessed a creature that looked like the sasquatch in the Patterson/Gimlin footage, moving at a pace that was faster than a man jogging, but slower than if one was running at a full sprint. I asked the witness if it appeared to be running from something or if it may have looked as if it was chasing something. L.P. stated that it appeared to be avoiding the rain or just trying not to be spotted. The next week he went to the area of the woods where the sighting occurred and estimated the height to be around 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 feet tall, using the trees as a reference. He could not find any footprints due to the rain that had fallen during and after the sighting.
The wooded area has now been developed into residential dwellings, and the witness felt that this creature may have left the area due to the construction that is still ongoing.
