Memory told of a possible daytime sighting while hunting geese outside Carlisle
(Show Printer-friendly Version)

YEAR: 1982

SEASON: Fall

MONTH: November

DATE: 13

STATE: Iowa

COUNTY: Warren County

LOCATION DETAILS: East on the Main street out of Carlisle to the first left

NEAREST TOWN: Carlisle

NEAREST ROAD: Hwy 65

OBSERVED: My Brother in law and I were hunting geese in a harvested Soy Bean field east of Carlisle Iowa about a mile out of town, we were concealed in our blind along a fence line, we saw a movement to the east of us and what we saw was just like many pictures that we had seen. The creature?? Had to be maybe six and a half to seven and a half foot tall (guessing) and was bent over, was black and walking faster than we had ever seen a human walk. We.left our blind and walked over to where we saw it but the ground was frozen so there were no tracks in the ground.

The area was vacated in the 1960s as part of the Red Rock Lake project by the Corps of Engineers.

We agreed to not say anything because we didn't want to called crazy, but, my Bother in law a while back I thought I would tell someone before I'm gone.

OTHER WITNESSES: Teo of us, we were in our Duck Blind.

OTHER STORIES: Nothing

TIME AND CONDITIONS: Sunny, cloudy and cold.
It was about 10AM

ENVIRONMENT: Flat farm land near the Des Moines and Middle rivers. There are wooded areas along both rivers.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator TK Bell:

In addition to the report, it was an overcast cold November day around 9-10 AM. From the duck blind to the creature was around 100 yards. They saw the side profile of the creature as it walked really fast stooped over, heading north to the gravel pit. It had taken about 20 steps in about 50 yards before it was out of their line of sight and could no longer see it. The estimated height to be 7-8 feet tall. When they went over to the area, they didn’t find any prints, it was walking on a gravel road. There was no odor in the area of where it was walking. When they saw it they did not hear any sound.

The property owner’s grandson asked them if they ever saw anything. He did tell the grandson the story. It has been said that other hunters and people have also seen something in this area.

I find the witness to be credible.
