Woman awoken from her bed by unusual animal call in Chilliwack

YEAR: 2012

SEASON: Spring

MONTH: June

DATE: 14

PROVINCE: British Columbia

COUNTRY: Canada

LOCATION DETAILS: Chilliwack, BC, Canada, Peach Road and Keith Wilson Road down by the Vedder River (the Vedder River is about 4 blocks south of the intersection of Peach Road and Keith Wilson Road)

NEAREST TOWN: Chilliwack

NEAREST ROAD: Peach Road/Keith Wilson Road

OBSERVED: Just after 2:00 AM on June 14, 2012 I was woken up by a very loud whooping/howling sound coming from what sounded like the Vedder River in Chilliwack, BC, Canada. I had my window open which is why I think it actually woke me up. I live about 4 blocks north of the Vedder River and the sound was nothing like I had ever heard before. It definitely was not human and I couldn't identify it as an animal I had ever heard before. The sound/call lasted for about 15 minutes. There were no other animal sounds associated. It was eerily quiet actually besides this noise. After 15 minutes it stopped. About 10 to 20 minutes later I heard the same call a couple times but it sounded farther away. I listened to the 1978 Whoop-Howl from Snohomish County, Washington, USA on your website and the sound is virtually identical (besides the echo) to what I heard.

ALSO NOTICED: None.

OTHER WITNESSES: No other witnesses that I know of.

OTHER STORIES: I haven't lived in this area for very long. According to the internet there are many, many reports of sasquatches/big foot in the Chilliwack Lake/Cultus Lake area which is 10 to 15 mins from where I live.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: 2:00 AM

Night time/no rain/no wind/calm

ENVIRONMENT: Mountains south of the Vedder River, forested

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Cindy Dosen:

I have spoken with the witness and listened to her recount the events of that evening.

She said the sound woke her up when she heard the animal call from her open bedroom window. Being perplexed and scared to go back to sleep she stayed up until morning and called her sister. Her sister discovered the BFRO site and e-mailed her the link. When searching through the sound recordings she got a chill up her spine when she heard the 1978 Whoop-Howl from Snohomish County, Washington. She said it was almost identical to what she heard. The young mother also spoke to her neighbor. They confirmed on hearing an animal around the same time but were unsure on what is was.

She noted that all the dogs in the area, including the neighbor's dog, usually bark at everything around. The dogs remained quiet when this animal was vocalizing.
