Report # 1277  (Class A)
Submitted by witness D. on Tuesday, September 28, 1999.
Creature seen walking across a grain field

YEAR: 1996

SEASON: Summer

MONTH: August

PROVINCE: Manitoba

COUNTRY: Canada

LOCATION DETAILS: It occurred in Rivers, Manitoba, Canada on #250 right at the "old #25 highway" sign.

OBSERVED: I was coming home just after dusk. I had slowed down to make my turn onto the gravel road. I saw a shape in the ditch on the west side of the highway and stopped because I thought one of the horses from the horse farm had gotten out. On second glance I knew it wasn't a horse so I turned my truck so that my lights were aimed at it. I'm not positive what I saw because it was moving away from me quite rapidly. However it was covered in dark brown hair and was walking upright. I would believe it was a bear except that bears are normally only on their hind legs for short periods of time. When I realized I didn't know what I was seeing I became frightened and went home.

OTHER WITNESSES: I was in town visiting with my family, no alcohol was involved.

ENVIRONMENT: The environment was prairie farmland. There was a grain field. The closest landmarks would be two farm yards. One immediately east and the other northeast of the sighting.
