Report # 80159  (Class A)
Submitted by witness Gael K. on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
RECENT: Daylight sighting by motorist along Wind River Hwy 6 miles northwest of Carson

YEAR: 2026

SEASON: Spring

MONTH: May

DATE: Friday

STATE: Washington

COUNTY: Skamania County

LOCATION DETAILS: 1-2 miles south of Hemlock Rd

NEAREST TOWN: Carson

NEAREST ROAD: Wnd River Rd

OBSERVED: I was driving in the Gifford Pinchot Natinal Forest on Wind River Road --- approximately 1-2 miles south of Hemlock Road (north of Carson). I noticed debris falling from the bank of the road and a large bolder in the ditch. I looked up the enbankment to see what may have caused it. I was traveling about 50 MPH so the viewing was very brief. I saw a reddish brown furry figure standing at the edge of the embrankment. The terrain behind it was heavy forestation. Because I was driving it is hard to say the height and I did not see a face. It may have had it's back to me but it was standing upright and definitely not human or a bear.

ALSO NOTICED: My original instinct was that the bolder had been pushed down the embankment.

OTHER WITNESSES: I was by myself but there was someone jogging down the road about 100 feet south of where I saw it

OTHER STORIES: No, I just know that there have been sitings in this region. I was not looking for bigfoot but this was the only explaination for what I saw.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: Around 12 noon. It was about 65 degrees and clear.

ENVIRONMENT: Edge of road with heavy forest behind it. The embankment was maybe 20 feet high with reddish/brown soil. I was raveling south and the sitting was to my east.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Matthew Moneymaker:

I spoke with witness Gael K. She is an excellent credible witness, and the story turned out to be more interesting than what she wrote.

About Gael:
- Lives in Toledo Washington.
- 70 years old. Born and raised in Washington.
- Married, 3 adult kids, 14 grandchildren.
- Retired but still works occassionally as a contractor.
- Worked for the State of Washington for 21 years in Department of Health - Drinking Water Safety - Enforcement Division.
- Has been driving all over the Cascades for decades. She sees big wild animals like elk every day.

She says this was definitely not an elk or bear or human. It looked like a sasquatch. She thinks it may have been juvenile because it was not super tall and massive. It was around the size of a human. The fur color light brown but slightly more orange than tree bark brown. She was roughly 40 feet away at closest view.

Gael was driving south on Wind River Highway. She mentions Hemlock Road as a reference point. If you look at Google Maps for this area you will see a community called "Stabler" north of Carson. Where the word "Stabler" appears on Google Maps is right where Hemlock Road connects with Wind River Hwy. She is saying the sighting happened 1-2 miles south of that intersection. We have not yet figured out the GPS coordinates of the incident but there may be a simple way to figure that out if you live in that area. See below.

There's a 20 foot embankment along the side of the highway where it occurred. The trees are close to the edge of the embankment. The sasquatch was standing on the edge of the embankment on the left side beside trees near the top of the embankment.

She was paying attention to the road ahead as she approached because she saw a jogger up ahead, jogging down the side of the highway. On the embankment she saw rocks and dust coming down as if there had been a small rock slide. Right below that dust and rock flow a sizeable boulder was resting on the edge of the highway, as if it had just fallen down there. It was partly on the road but not so much that cars would not easily be able to drive around it.

The boulder was about 4 feet by 2 feet, by Gael's estimation. It was not a small rock. It appeared the boulder had just slid down the embankment right before Gael drove up on the scene. After she noticed the rock slide dust and small rocks still coming down the embankment, she followed that path with her eyes up the top of the embankment and saw the sasquatch standing motionless right above the rock slide. Its back was to her as she approached, therefore it's body was oriented to look in the direction of the jogger that was roughly 100 feet further down the highway.

The jogger was jogging south along the highway, away from the point of the small rock slide. The jogger would have just passed it shortly before. The rock slide could have happened after right the jogger passed that point but the jogger didn't seem to notice or at least not care.

I asked Gael about the jogger. The jogger was a woman with hair in a pony tail. She was petite and wearing pink shorts. Her back was to Gael as Gael approached. She was a redhead.

I put the possibility to Gael that maybe the sasquatch pushed the big rock off the edge of the embankment in response to the jogger women passing by. Gael said that was entirely possible.

Why would that have happened? Was the sasquatch trying to get the attention of the redhead woman jogger? Was it trying to scare her away? Did it come to edge of the embankment to get a better view of her after she passed by, and then inadvertently dislodged the big rock from the top of the embankment when it came to the edge?

This incident happened around noon on Friday May 8, 2026. There is a very good chance that the big rock is still there on the edge of the highway, which would indicate where the sighting occurred. There may or may not be bigfoot tracks on the slope above where the rock slid down. That is what can be check by a local from one of the nearby communities like Carson or Stabler.
