Man recalls seeing a sasquatch in the early evening near Great Falls

YEAR: 1976

SEASON: Fall

MONTH: September

PROVINCE: Manitoba

COUNTRY: Canada

LOCATION DETAILS: Banks of the Winnipeg River just past the White Mud Falls Channel. 2 miles north of Great falls, Manitoba

NEAREST TOWN: Great Falls

NEAREST ROAD: Provincial highway # 11

OBSERVED: I have kept this to myself for many years now, but here goes. When I was a young boy ( I was 10 years old) growing up in the country I had an experience that changed my life forever. One evening I was about to head into the house for supper. As i headed for the door my dog just started to go crazy. I had never seen my dog this upset before. She was barking in the direction of the river. I walked over to see what she was barking at and something large caught the corner of my eye. There was this enormous shaggy creature running down the hill towards the river. I would have estimated the distance to be in the range of 100 yards. It's height looked to be about 8 to 9 feet tall (I had used the hazel nut trees as a guideline). I also noticed a very prominent odour in the air and it smelled of rancid rotten fish. It then stopped and turned towards me. I could see it's shape very clearly because the sun was approaching the horizon behind it. It had the long hair, no apparent neck, and there was a sort of protrusion at the top of it's head, like a bump. I could make out what looked like fingers also. It only paused about 10 seconds or so and let out a scream like I have never heard before in my life. It made me very frightened. A very high pitched scream, but more like a roar. I have spent literally hundreds of hours out in the bush and to this day have never heard anything like that agian. I just grabbed the dog and ran to the house with her as fast as I could go. I do remember screaming as I was running.

ALSO NOTICED: The way the creature stopped and looked at me. It made me afraid for my life.

OTHER WITNESSES: no

OTHER STORIES: no

TIME AND CONDITIONS: At approx. 5:30 pm. The sky was clear and the sun was on it's way down

ENVIRONMENT: My parents back yard. Scrub poplar, willows, hazel nut trees. It was right next to a river.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Blaine McMillan :

I have interviewed this witness several times about this incident, and I found him to be honest and forthright. In his report, he stated that when he was a young boy his dog drew his attention to something across the field from his parents' house. He turned and saw an upright shaggy creature running towards the Winnipeg River. The sun was setting behind the creature, so his view was such that no distinctive features could be determined. However, he was able to determine that when compared to the nearby hazel nut trees, the creature appeared to be very large; close to 8 or 9 feet in height. It also had very long arms, a domed or crested head and no neck. The creature then paused long enough to look in the direction of the witness and the barking dog, after which it vocalized a roaring scream before entering the treeline.
