YEAR: 2019
SEASON: Fall
MONTH: October
DATE: 03
STATE: Oregon
COUNTY: Douglas County
LOCATION DETAILS: Our cabin was on a lake in a wooded area and the salmon had just come into the lake from the river before they went into the tributaries to spawn
NEAREST TOWN: Florence
NEAREST ROAD: 101 ~ County line Road
OBSERVED: My husband and I had an off the grid cabin on a coastal lake in Oregon. Its only power was by generator in an outbuilding about 20 feet from the back of our cabin. The area between our cabin and the generator building is gravel and grass. It is an unobstructed view from the back window.
We had a kitchen light on and one other lamp on in the front room. At about 10 PM at night, on October 3, 2019, we heard a noticeable bang on our cabin. It was loud enough that we looked at each other and said what was that.
My husband went outside with his gun and looked around on the side and front of the cabin, but nothing was found. We sat back down, and a few minutes passed and again we heard the same bang.
This time I turned off the TV and lights and he looked out the window and also went into our bedroom which was on the back side of the house. In the light from the generator shed he saw a huge figure that began to move toward the light of the generator shed window where my husband could see the creature extremely well. He called me and said to come here and said you won’t believe this.
I took one look at it and it scared me so badly I ran into another room. I knew right way that it was a sasquatch. My husband spent more time looking at it. He paid attention to where the top of its head was on the light of the window seal of the generator room.
It had a flat face with a prominent brow and was covered in reddish brown hair all over its body. It had block type teeth and lips with a flat type of nose. It walked upright and swung its arm to the side as it moved. The look on its face was a look of curiosity and had intelligence to it. It did not seem aggressive, but we did not approach it or threaten it. After about two minutes it moved into the woods.
We had two shih tzu adult dogs that had been house broken for years. They also were barkers to let us know if someone was around. The dogs were quiet, huddled in a corner, and both of them peed on the floor.
After the creature walked off into the darkness my husband said we needed to leave the area, so we picked up our dogs and each of us had a gun and he hit the panic alarm on the truck to cause the lights to flash and the horn to honk. It was never our intent to use the guns to shoot the creature as it looked almost humanoid, we only carried them for our protection in case it became aggressive.
We then ran to the truck and fled down the road. Upon return the next morning my husband measured how tall the creature and it was over 8 1/2 feet tall. We did not find any footprints as the solid is hard packed sand and mossy, however the ferns in the area were trampled down and mushrooms kicked up on the bath he took.
We believe the band we heard was the creature looking into the kitchen window. We had a plastic container on the deck outside of the window that we placed recycle cans in. When I bumped into the container it had the same bang sound against the cabin wall.
ALSO NOTICED: we got trail cams and put apples out on our deck after the incident. The cameras were moved by an unknown reason and one photo showed the apples there and the next showed them gone but nothing was captured on the camera as it was turned another direction than we placed it.
OTHER WITNESSES: 2, my husband and I watching TV
OTHER STORIES: none that we are aware of
TIME AND CONDITIONS: 10 PM, raning and dark however the light in our outbuilding window gave us a perfect view of the creature
ENVIRONMENT: forest wooded area on a lake and there is also a swampy area close by (within 1/2 of a mile)
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Matthew Moneymaker:
I spoke with these witnesses at length by phone.
They are both very credible, respectable, retired Oregonians. The incident happened at their off-grid lake front cabin, built entirely by the husband, who worked as a chief millwright at a lumber mill for 30 years.
The couple has a main residence in a town some distance away. They were so shaken by this incident that they sold the lake cabin not long afterward. The new owners were not detered by the story, and were actually excited that a real sasquatch might have come around there previously.
The new owners would have likely mentioned more recent occurrences there because they emailed the witnesses a few years later and sent a photo of a sasquatch track they found at a different part of Siltcoos Lake, not far from at least one large herd of elk (50-75 elk).
This area has the typical density of deer for this part of the county, but also has the specialty protein ingredients that are unique to parts of the Pacific Northwest -- resident elk herds near reliable salmon runs.
Their close view, and the husband's extended view, of the sasquatch as it peered into the window of the generator shed approxiately 15 feet away is easily among the top five sightings, on those two measures, that we have ever received.
The sound of the generator apparently covered the sound of the husband stepping from the living room into the bedroom after the wife had turned out the lights and TV.
Both were able to describe the face in great detail -- enough detail to prompt my request to work with a sketch artist to create a good drawing of the face at some point down the line.
A very important point not included in the wife's first written report:
After seeing the creature they immdiately called the sheriffs before gathering their dogs and guns to leave. About 20 minutes later they met with two deputies a few miles from the cabin.
The couple explained what happened, and the deputies requested to return to the cabin with them so they could have a look around. They all went back to the cabin. The deputies retrieved their AR-15 types rifles from the trunk before walking around in the darkness there.
The couple and deputies found the pathway in the grass where the figure walked away into the woods. They could see the step impressions in the grass leading away from the cabin but the step impressions were not fit for casting.
The deputies did not try to persuade the retired couple that they had merely seen a common animal like a bear. When the couple asked the deputies if they had ever received calls like this from around that area, the deputies looked at each other and only said, "Yes, a few times."
When the deputies first contacted the couple a few miles away from the cabin, the deputies advised them that they were being recorded. The first conversation happened in front of the partrol car, so the audio/video recording may be from a dashcam or body-cams, but it was one of those two for sure.
The conversation happened in the dark, but I would sure love to hear the recording myself. That's a little piece of Oregon history right there, in my estimation, and the couple has no problem with other people hearing it.
This is the kitchen window the couple believes the sasquatch was looking into repeatedly that night before it turned its attention to the geneator shed, because the bumping sound the couple heard twice was the sound of a recycling bin bumping into the cabin wall. The recycling bin was outside, just below this kitchen window.
All of the windows of this cabin, including some big sliding glass doors, were all covered by thick curains ... except for the kitchen window (curtains were pulled to sides) and the window of the back bedroom from which the husband stood in darkness and observed the creature outside roughly 15 feet away, illuminated by lights inside the generator shed.
