YEAR: 2001
SEASON: Winter
MONTH: January
DATE: 25
STATE: Colorado
COUNTY: Archuleta County
NEAREST TOWN: Pagosa Springs CO / Dulce NM
NEAREST ROAD: Saw on Cromo RD and about 2 miles from Highway 84
OBSERVED: It was Friday, January 25, 2001. At first I was not even going to go down to the area were I and a friend saw a bigfoot. I was going to finish watching the Pagosa Basketball team play and go home. But a boxing match was on the same night and my best friend's (not the friend that saw it with me) brother-in-law was going to buy it on Pay per View, and his brother-in-law lives in the area of Cromo and Edith, Colorado. There are always some crazy sightings of UFO's and Bigfoot sightings. I really didn't believe in these type of things until I saw one for myself.
We watched the boxing match and after it was over we started to head back to Pagosa Springs on Cromo Rd and we were almost to Highway 84 when about 20 yards in front of us this thing or big foot crossed and went quickly, almost as if we were seeing things. I didn't know what to think, so I asked Sammy if he saw it, and he said, What was that? We got up to where it crossed and I opened my door to look down on the road and saw a foot print and Sammy opened his door and saw a track too. We both freaked out and I drove as fast I could to Pagosa Springs. We didn't tell that many people, only the ones that would believe us.
ALSO NOTICED: The foot prints on the snow packed road after it crossed the county road
OTHER WITNESSES: There were two of us, myself and my friend
OTHER STORIES: Yes, the Jicarilla Apache Tribe has stories about sightings
TIME AND CONDITIONS: Night time around 11:30 or so
ENVIRONMENT: It was Ponderosa and oak brush, about 3 to 4" snow on the ground, in a Cromo Valley
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Dr. Steven Coy:
I interviewed this young man one morning at a Denny's restaurant, and have since talked to him on the phone on at least one occasion. He is an avid outdoorsman and hunter, having been raised, as I recall, in the Pagosa Springs area though he no longer lives there.
I have no doubts whatsoever as to his credibility, and subsequently met and interviewed, at his suggestion, a former high school teacher who knows the witness well. This teacher has also talked to one or more additional individuals who have had some kind of sighting or encounter in this Pagosa Springs area.
When asked about the size of the creature, the witness stated that he believed it had to be at least eight feet tall, perhaps nine, as it smoothly crossed the county road in approximately one and one half strides.
