YEAR: 2014
SEASON: Spring
MONTH: June
DATE: 7
STATE: Missouri
COUNTY: Cape Girardeau County
LOCATION DETAILS: My location is a very rural area. I live on several hundred acres near the "Lake Girardeau" Conservation Area.
NEAREST TOWN: Crump, MO
NEAREST ROAD: Omitted
OBSERVED: I have heard wood knocks, whistles, growls, and thumps in the timber behind my house. As a hunter and veteran, I'm not sure what is making these sounds.
OTHER WITNESSES: My stepdaughter.
OTHER STORIES: A few stories out of a campground that is several miles away from my residence.
TIME AND CONDITIONS: The whistle and knocks have been at night. The stomping around and growls were in the afternoon.
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Chris Callahan:
I spoke to the witness by phone.
In summary:
-The sounds were heard from the residence itself, which is surrounded by timber.
-The wood knocks were stressed as being more like "thumps" and occurred several times during a 1.5 week period (always around 1AM and very calm weather-wise).
-The growls were heard twice and were "deep, throbbing, and made your chest vibrate." The dogs retreated back to the house upon hearing the growls. This happened around 5PM each time with calm weather for both events.
-Immediately before the growls were heard, all wildlife ceased making noise and the "Dead Zone" started.
-Prior to hearing the growls, possible stomping and stick breaks were heard, but nothing was seen.
