STATE: California
COUNTY: Sonoma County
NEAREST TOWN: Petaluma
NEAREST ROAD: 116
OBSERVED: I was traveling to the coast toward Petaluma just past Sonoma area either Hwy 116 or 12, I don't remember, around nine years ago and around 11 pm when out jumped somthing on the road. There was a car coming toward us so this thing huge in stature turned both directions allowing us to see it was on two legs, then it leaned forward with a bolt of speed. It jumped a fence up hill in a full run with out the use of its arms and was gone quick so quick, I knew it was not a person
OTHER WITNESSES: One in the car with me, and the driver of on comming car
OTHER STORIES: Yes my mother in-law and my wife who is from this area said they heard a sream one time that was heard across the area and was reported in the newspapers. The year I don't know.
TIME AND CONDITIONS: It was night time with headlights from both directions
Follow-up investigation report:
I talked with the witness by phone and the following details can be added to the report:
--It first was seen in the center of the road, and then it turned and looked at both cars (the witness's and the on-coming car), then ran across the road, over a 5-foot barbed wire fence and up the mountainside.
--Creature was very big, approximately 7.5 feet tall and 400-500 pounds. Its crotch was higher than the on-coming car.
--The creature had hair or fur, but its color could not be determined.
--At the closest, it was only 50 yards from the witness.
--There was another person in his car, who also saw that it ran across the road on two legs.
