YEAR: 1997
SEASON: Summer
MONTH: September
DATE: 10
STATE: California
COUNTY: Trinity County
LOCATION DETAILS: Trinity County, Weaverville, near the Weaver Valley fire look-out in the Trinity Alps.
OBSERVED: It was about 1:00 a.m. and I heard the most scariest howl that echoed through the mountains. I have been backpacking in the mountains in northern California 4 times a year for the past 10 years and have never heard anything like it. Bigfoot was the first thing that crossed my mind, as to what it might have been.
OTHER WITNESSES: Starting to fall asleep.
ENVIRONMENT: We were camping near the top of the divide (6500 ft.) about 1 mile east of the look-out. The howl seemed to come from the east.
