YEAR: 2010
SEASON: Fall
MONTH: September
DATE: 9/25/10
STATE: Washington
COUNTY: Skamania County
NEAREST TOWN: Carson WA
NEAREST ROAD: Wind River Hwy, Leete Rd, County Rd 60
OBSERVED: My wife and I have a cabin just off the Wind River Hwy on Leete Road for weekend and vacation use. Saturday evening we arrived about 8:00 p.m. and after unpacking the car we walked out to road out front of the cabin, and noticed a very heavy musky skunk like odor. Our brown lab "Sadie" caught the scent too and started to look around for it, but it seemed to disappear quickly.
About one hour later 9:00ish p.m. I stepped outside with my porch with my dog; hoping to see the planet Jupiter, but it was still behind the trees to our south.
It was then that behind our property to the east in the direction of County Rd 60 I heard three distinct and loud animal calls that made a Whoo-Up! sound. It sounded like a person trying to imitate a bird call. I have never heard a sound like this ever in my life, and I am familiar with several Pacific Northwest animal sounds.
This unnearved me a little, and caught the dog's attention. I quickly moved the dog inside the cabin, and had my wife put on her shoes to come outside and listen. We waited for about 20 minutes, but did not hear the animal calls again. The only sounds we heard then were the neighbors down the road playing some music, and muffled voices.
Bigfoot? I don't know. We have used our cabin for 3 years now and never experienced this. Very odd
OTHER WITNESSES: My wife was the first to notice the musky skunk as we walked out side to the end of the driway on Leete Rd. I was alone out side in our driveway when I heard the animal calls
OTHER STORIES: no
TIME AND CONDITIONS: 8-9:00 pm, Wind calm, dark with some light from the moon not quite up to the south east
ENVIRONMENT: 1950's cabin with forest of Douglas Fir, and maple beside the cabin, and directly behind it. There is a hillside behind the property that leads up to County Rd 60.
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Scott Taylor:
The witness and his wife were at their cabin for a few days. After arriving on Friday evening they smelled a very powerful scent near their cabin. The wife was the first to notice it. The witness described it as a cross between skunk and body odor, and very musky. They said that it was over-powering and acrid. The smell came from the direction that he later heard the vocalizations emanate from.
An hour later, while he was outside and his wife was inside, he heard the vocalizations. He described it to me as a “whooo-ooop” that repeated three times. The sounds came from the back of their property about 300 yards to the east. He could not recognize it as any animal that he knew. He called his wife and they listened for about an hour, but it did not repeat.
From looking over the area using Google Earth, the witness’ cabin is right in the middle of prime sasquatch habitat. There is a river to the west a short distance, and also a good sized pond. These would be excellent foraging locations. There are forests surrounding the cabin. The tracts of forest land are of varying ages from clear-cut to mature timber.
I would actually expect to find sasquatches living in that area. I also believe that in the summer time it would be a great region to conduct an expedition. There are many other reports from that part of Washington State.
While it is not possible to state for sure that what they heard was a sasquatch, the combination of the smell, and the vocalizations would indicate a high probability.
