YEAR: 2010
SEASON: Winter
MONTH: January
DATE: 1-12-10
STATE: Georgia
COUNTY: Murray County
LOCATION DETAILS: IT WAS REMOTLY CLOSE TO THE WOODS.
NEAREST TOWN: CHATSWORTH
NEAREST ROAD: [removed]
OBSERVED: IT WAS A COLD TUESDAY MORNING WHEN I WAS GOING OUT TO GET MY TWO DOGS TO PUT THEM IN THE KENNEL BEFORE I WENT OUT. I WAS STANDING ON THE FIRST STEP UP TO THE DOOR OUT BACK. I COULD SEE RIGHT OVER MY MUCH LARGER KENNEL. THIS LARGER KENNEL WAS AT LEAST 6 FEET TALL. ONE OF MY DOGS HAD JUST CAME IN. I WAS LOOKING FOR THE OTHER DOG.I WAS YELLING HIS NAME. RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE LARGER KENNEL WAS A BUILDING A LITTLE BIT SHORTER THAN THE KENNEL. I COULD ONLY SEE THE TOP OF THE KENNEL.
I KEPT YELLING THE DOG'S NAME. I LOOKED OVER THE KENNEL TO SEE IF I COULD SEE THE DOG COMING. THAT'S WHEN I SAW A LARGE BROWN HAIRY CREATURE.I COULD SEE ABOUT HALF OF IT'S HEAD, DUE TO THE CAGE PART OF THE KENNEL.IT HAD VERY LONG REDDISH BROWN HAIR GOING FROM IT'S FORHEAD DOWN AS FAR AS I COULD SEE. IT HAD SHORT LIGHTER BROWN HAIR ON WHAT I COULD SEE OF IT'S FACE.
IT HAD AN ARM THAT WAS ABOUT 3 FEET LONG. IT HAD SHORT LIGHTER BROWN HAIR ON IT'S HANDS JUST LIKE IT'S FACE.IT HAD LONGER REDDISH BROWN HAIR FROM IT'S WRIST ALL THE WAY DOWN IT'S ARM. IT HAD A POINTY EAR. I KNOW MOST SUPPOSEDLY SEEN BIGFOOT SIGHTINGS DON'T HAVE POINTY EARS, BUT IT'S WHAT I SAW. IT HAD TO BE 7 FEET TALL BECAUSE IT WAS TALLER THAN THE KENNEL. I HEARD IT LAND AS IF IT HAD JUMPED UP IN THE AIR AND THEN LANDED ON SOMETHING.I HEARD 4 THUMPS, AS IF IT LANDED ON IT'S KNEES FIRST AND THEN IT'S HANDS.
I SHUT THE DOOR AND RAN BACK IN. THEN ABOUT 2 OR 3 DAYS LATER I WAS WALKING OUT TO MY CAR AND I HEARD SOMETHING MAKE A NOISE. IT SOUNDED LIKE A GRUNT OR GROWL.IT WAS IN THE SAME AREA THAT I HAD SEEN IT LAST TIME.WHERE I LIVE, THERE AREN'T ANY BROWN BEARS. NOTHING ELSE COULD HAVE BEEN 7 FEET TALL OR THE SAME COLOR IT WAS.THIS HAS LED ME TO BELIEVE THAT THERE IS SOMETHING LIVING IN THE WOODS BEHIND MY HOUSE.
ALSO NOTICED: SOME ONE IN MY FAMILY WENT TO LOOK AROUND A FEW DAYS AFTER I HAD HEARD SOMETHING. HE FOUND A PATH OF BROKEN LIMBS OF TREES AND WHAT SEEMED TO BE WHERE SOMETHING HAD WALKED UP AND DOWN THE EDGE OF TREES WHERE I HAD HEARD IT.
OTHER WITNESSES: NO,JUST ME.
OTHER STORIES: NO,I HAVEN'T HEARD OF ANY BUT I'M SURE THERE ARE SOME.
TIME AND CONDITIONS: IT WAS ABOUT 7:20 AM AND IT HAD LIGHTLY RAINED ALL NIGHT.
ENVIRONMENT: IT WAS CLOSE TO THE FOREST AND IT WAS AT THE BOTTOM OF A FOOTHILL.
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Matt Pruitt:
I spoke to the witness (an 11 year old child) and her father at length about the incident.
Typically, the BFRO refrains from publishing reports that are submitted by children under a certain age, but this particular witness' testimony was quite detailed, and was corroborated by her father.
The witness and her family live on the outskirts of the Chattahoochee National Forest, very close to the Cohutta Wilderness.
I found the witness to be very articulate and direct about what she saw. Her father expressed to me that he was very proud of his daughter; that she made excellent grades in school, and isn't one to fabricate stories.
The animal that she saw seemed to be interested in the outdoor kennel, which housed the family's dogs and their newborn pups. The puppies had been crying rather loudly that morning, and I suspect that the sasquatch came to investigate the sounds. The young witness described observing a very large sasquatch that was immediately alarmed by her, and retreated quickly. When I asked her about the "pointy ears" that she noticed, she elaborated that the tops of the ears looked exposed and not obscured by the longer hair on its head. This gave her the initial impression that it had pointy ears.
I speculate that the sasquatch may have interpreted the sounds of the young pups as a potential food source. That region of the Southern Appalachians experienced a particularly harsh winter during that time, and the sasquatch may have been desperate for food; desperate enough to approach a human habitation as the sun was rising.
Oftentimes, during cold winters, the reports that we receive in North Georgia occur very close to rural homes that lie on the periphery of large tracts of forest. This ecotone often provides the most food resources for resident sasquatches. Large deer herds are often located in many of the fields and rural agricultural plots just outside of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Moreover, the data suggests that sasquatches occasionally exploit human food resources as well (raiding trash cans, stealing food from outdoor storage containers and freezers, etc.).
The following month after this incident occurred, I explored the general area with GA-BFRO investigators Morris Collins and Keith McLain. We camped at the site of another Class A incident (Report #25043). We also experienced one of the more severe snow and ice storms in the area in recent years.
The Cohutta Mountains are rugged, beautiful, and provide a viable habitat for sasquatches.
