OBSERVED: Last week while driving between Port Alberni and Tofino on Vancouver Island I saw what at first I believed to be a bear on a tree overhanging the river. After commenting to my wife, I glanced back again to see what I can only describe as being a large ape like creature crouched on the tree with its arm hanging down almost into the river as if it were trying to grab a fish swimming upstream. I am absolutely certain that what I saw was not a bear because I distinctly saw its facial features which were definately similar to an ape. I am 100% sure that what I saw was a Sasquatch. I am almost sure I could identify the exact tree where I saw this creature should anyone be interested in investigating this.

ENVIRONMENT: Treed Forest area with River running alongside the highway

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Colleen McDonald:

I spoke to the witness April 16, 2007.

The witness has spent thirty years on the B.C. coast and is familiar with black bears and grizzlies. He is certain what he saw was not a bear. I found the witness to be very credible.

He observed the animal crouched on a log sticking out of the riverbank over the water surface. It had its arm outstretched like it was waiting for a fish to swim by so it could grab the fish with its hand.

He stated that if it had stood up he believes the height of the creature would have been about seven feet and at least 500lbs. It had dark brown, long human like hair. It had hair on its face but not over the eyes or mouth. Its head shape was human like. He described the animal as having human/caveman like features. The witness observed the animal for a few seconds as he was driving along the road then looking back over his shoulder toward the creature.

On April 22, 2007, I returned to the sighting location with the witness. The area was a river running along the highway, hills, mountainous terrain. It is a rainforest environment.

We couldn't access the side of the riverbank where the sighting occurred. We hiked on some trails above the location and there were some arched saplings in the second growth forest. There were a lot of deer scat and noticeable game trails through the forest indicating another possible food supply for the animal. This happened on the right-hand side of the road along the Kennedy River.
