YEAR: 2006
SEASON: Summer
MONTH: July
DATE: 26
PROVINCE: British Columbia
COUNTRY: Canada
LOCATION DETAILS: THEY HAD JUST LOGGED THIS AREA ABOUT 3 MONTHS BEFORE
NEAREST TOWN: LADYSMITH
NEAREST ROAD: ISLAND HIGHWAY
OBSERVED: I AM NOT SURE WHAT I HEARD BUT WHAT EVER I HEARD IT MADE MY HAIR STAND UP ON THE BACK OF MY NECK. I LIVE IN A MOBILEHOME PARK WITH WOODS AROUND US. IT WAS AFTER MIDNIGHT AROUND THE 26 OF JULY 2006. I TAKE MY DOG OUT TO DO HER STUFF BEFORE I GO TO BED. I WAS NOT OUT THERE FOR MORE THAN 2 MINUTES AND I HEARD SOME KIND OF HOWLING. IT WAS NOTHING I HAVE EVER HEARD BEFORE. IT IS EVEN HARD FOR ME TO DISCRIBE. I GOT SO SCARED THAT I GRABBED MY DOG AND AS QUICK AS I COULD GOT IN MY HOUSE AND LOOKED THE DOOR. IT WENT ON FOR A NOTHER FEW MINUTES, THEN I HEARD DOGS IN THE DISTANCE BARKING LIKE CRAZY. I HAD TOLD A FRIEND THAT LIVES BEHIND ME WHAT I HEARD AND HE HAD SAID THAT HE HAD HEARD SOMETHING STRANGE AROUND THE SAME TIME. LIKE I SAID BEFORE I NEVER HEARD ANYTHING LIKE IT. I DO BELIEVE IN BIGFOOT.
OTHER WITNESSES: JUST ME
OTHER STORIES: NO
TIME AND CONDITIONS: MIDNIGHT, DARK AND CLEAR
ENVIRONMENT: WOODS WITH A RIVER
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Colleen McDonald:
I talked to the witness July 16, 2007.
She works as a nurse and has lived in B.C. all of her life. She is familiar with the local wildlife. I found her to be very credible.
She lives in Ladysmith. Haslam Creek runs nearby. This area isn't very far from the Nanaimo River.
She said she heard the sound in the direction of the North Oyster Bay School that is on Cedar Road. The school is closed down now. The area is mostly forested but it is being developed and a portion of it has recently been logged.
The sound came from the direction of the North Oyster Bay School that is on Cedar road. The school is closed down now.
She heard a howling sound twice. It made the hair on the back of her neck stand up and dogs started barking in the distance. Her neighbor also heard the strange howling and he is an avid hunter. She hasn't heard anything like it since and hasn't heard of any other activity in her area, at least that we are presently aware of.
