YEAR: 2004
SEASON: Fall
MONTH: October
DATE: Monday
STATE: Texas
COUNTY: Morris County
LOCATION DETAILS: Please do not post the directions.
NEAREST TOWN: Daingerfield, Texas
OBSERVED: This may take a while, I don't type very fast.
It was in the early autumn, while I was burning feed sacks out behind the bunk house. The sacks were damp so I tossed a cup of gas on the still small flame and it made a roaring sound and flames shot up in the air about 5 feet. It was immediately after that, I heard a noise behind me. It can best be described as a (gasp/startled) sound and limbs breaking. I turned quickly and saw a very tall, maybe 7 feet, reddish-brown bigfoot running back into the woods. As I said it was tall, rather lean looking, barrel chested, no neck. The head, from the side view seemed to be slightly pointed, but that could have been a trick of the light. It had a slim waist, compared to the size of the chest. It had a very long stride, for it didn't take 5 to 10 seconds before it was in the thick woods and I lost sight of it.
I waited until the fire was going good, went and got my gun, I wasn't aiming to shoot it, I just felt safer with the gun, and I went out to where I saw it and found no tracks, because of the thick leaves and ground clutter. At the time forest was virgin and could not pick up a trail.
Earlier that year, late summer, something broke a big limb, about 4" in diameter, off a sweetgum tree not 15 feet from where I burned the feed sacks. But this was done at night and no one saw or heard anything.
ALSO NOTICED: Before the 2004 sighting.
My wife, niece, and I heard a sound like a scream, yell, howl all in one. If you can imagine such a sound. It sent chills up my back.
That was back in 1998.
OTHER WITNESSES: I was alone at the time.
OTHER STORIES: When I was 16 yrs. old we lived near Bradfield Chapel, just 4 mi. out of Daingerfield. My Mother, brother and myself found a 3-toed track in the woods on our place. We also had several young calves come up missing, no trace of blood, bone, hide, nothing. We had a 6mo. old colt that had yer neck ripped open from her ear to her shoulder. This was in 1966.
TIME AND CONDITIONS: Mid-day
Sunny and clear
ENVIRONMENT: virgin woods, lots of pine and hardwoods, plenty of underbrush (at the time of the sighting).
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Gary Christensen:
I spoke to the witness by telephone. He said that the recollection of the sighting was burned in his memory, and he was able to provide these additional details.
The bigfoot was about 60 yards away in tall grass when he heard it, then saw it. He said that it ran upright like a human, with very long strides, lots of arm swing, and at a speed that no human could match. It disappeared into the woods. He described it as having a small head, no neck, and no protruding forehead. He only saw the head from the side. It did not look at him. The top of a four foot high barbed wire fence near it appeared to be just below its waist.
As an experiment after hearing about the wood knocking method of interacting with bigfoot, the witness did 3 wood knocks on the sweetgum tree. After waiting for a response and hearing nothing, he went about his business. Two days later, he found the broken limb on that same tree. The live limb, as big around as his arm, was at least 8 feet from the ground and pulled straight down.
One other incident occurred in 1997 or 1998. He, his wife, and niece were looking at the horses near dark. One of the horses seemed concerned with something across the road. From that area, approximately 300 yards away, they heard a very loud, unusual vocalization. It started with a sound like an owl, then a howl, and then a higher pitched sound like a coyote. The witness had never heard anything like it, although he has lived in that area all his life. The vocalization was disturbing enough that they quickly returned to the house.
The witness is a hunter and very familiar will all the animals in that area. I found him to be very sincere and forthright in his recollection.
