LOCATION DETAILS: Before you get into the town of Sanostee, there's a turn off to the southwest (across from the trading post turn off). This is a well used dirt road that leads to the mountains. (Withheld)

OBSERVED: I was hunting in the Chuska Mountains (unit [withheld] of the Navajo Nation). I heard wood knocks, just two clear knocks towards the north of my tent.

The previous night i had heard foot steps coming towards my tent. The other campers were south and southeast of my area 10 to 20 yards away. I was already in my tent ready to sleep.

ALSO NOTICED: i was trying to listening for other wood knocks or other noises but did not heard anything else.

OTHER WITNESSES: just myself. the others were sleeping.

OTHER STORIES: Just from reading the latest entry into the bfro site.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: approximately 12:30 am. Clear skies, full moon.

ENVIRONMENT: Ponderosa pine forest with oak stands.

Witness has been a zoologist for 12 years. She has conducted several wildlife surveys in and around the Chuska Mt. range.

She is very familiar with the local wildlife -- too familiar for the wood knocking to be misidentified woodpeckers, etc.
