YEAR: 1997
SEASON: Winter
MONTH: December
DATE: 1st
STATE: West Virginia
COUNTY: Nicholas County
LOCATION DETAILS: Near Richwood, WV, in the Cranberry Back Country located inside Monongahela National Forest. The nearest road is the Highland Scenic Highway.
OBSERVED: In the early morning hours of December 1st, 1997, I was hunting with my son when I heard some weird sounds coming from a nearby gully. The sounds observed were similar to that of a woman screaming, followed by a strange sort of chatter, as if someone were playing a recording of a human-like conversation backwards.
ALSO NOTICED: I have been to the area several times before. I've witnessed black bear, deer, bobcat, grouse, you name it, but I've never heard such a spine-tingling sound such as I heard that morning. And no I've NOT returned!
OTHER WITNESSES: My son Wally and I.
ENVIRONMENT: The environment is very wooded, and follows along the Middle Fork River. The point of observation was near the boundary of the Cranberry Wildlife Preserve.
