YEAR: 2000
SEASON: Fall
MONTH: September
DATE: I'm not sure.
STATE: Washington
COUNTY: Kitsap County
LOCATION DETAILS: Past Kountry Kornor on the back road to Suquamish.
NEAREST TOWN: Kingston, Washington
NEAREST ROAD: Included in report..
OBSERVED: I saw [a] bigfoot about five years ago on the Kitsap Penninsula in Washington State. I was between Kingston and Hansville. I was giving a friend of mine a ride home and it was very late at night.
We had just past "Kountry Kornor" and as we approached what the locals call Maple Tree Cornor we saw a huge animal that neither of us could identify. It was standing on one side of the road and as we approached, it started crossing to the other side. It stopped for a moment and looked right at us. It seemed to be a little stunned by the headlights. Then it ran across the street and jumped down a very steep ravine.
There is a streetlight on that cornor so I was able to see it very clearly. It appeared to be about six to seven feet tall. It's hair was light in color...almost gray. The hair hanging down from the underside of it's arms was very long.
I know it sounds silly, but I had two very distinct impressions as I looked at this creature...that it was female and that it was sad. You know I take back what I said about not being able to identify it...the second I saw it I knew exactly what it was. As we approached the spot where it had jumped into the woods I slowed down to see if it was still there. The man that I was with was completely panicked...he yelled at me to speed up and get out of there. He and I only talked about it once after that...he seemed to be completly unsettled by the experience. I was more curious than afraid. I did not get the impression we were in any danger. I hope than one day I will see [a] bigfoot again.
ALSO NOTICED: My companion was a Navy Seal so I was very surprised that he was so frightened.
OTHER WITNESSES: There were two of us. He had been working on his vechicle which had broken down near my house (in Hansville). When he couldn't fix it he came to my house and asked for a ride home.
OTHER STORIES: Yes, there have been several reports in that area.
My mother said she and a friend on a morning walk
saw something similar to what I saw. This was on
what the locals called "roller coaster road". I believe the road name was Seatter(?). It was near Kingston out towards Jefferson Beach.
TIME AND CONDITIONS: About 2a.m
The weather was clear and dry and was well lit.
ENVIRONMENT: As we approached the cornor, Kountry Kornor was behind us. Kingston was to the left. To the right (where it exited the road) was a very steep ravine and very wooded.
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Ric Hjertberg:
The witness has spent much of her life in the outdoors. She recounted the incident with additional details, enabling me to visit the exact spot and explore the steep embankment, down which the animal moved after the sighting. The area is a plausible travel route from an area of small farms near Puget Sound into third growth timber with dense undergrowth.
The witness remembers it was about 3AM when she was driving 35-45mph south on Miller Bay Road. The sighting occured under a streetlight at the intersection of NE West Kingston Road. This is a rural intersection with no buildings within sight.
She recalls the animal was well proportioned with a smooth, athletic sort of motion. It appeared to be female, shy, but relaxed. It was bigger than a person, the witness recollects it stood over 7 feet tall. The hair from its arms was pronounced, about 6" long.
